Bruce Trotter, Chairman of the Deacons

Bruce and Janice Trotter

Hello Church!

I am Bruce Trotter, one of the Deacons here at First Baptist Church of Sparks. My wife Janice and I have been married for 47 years (as of Sept. 2020).  We have been blessed by God with two children, a daughter, Jennifer who lives in Sacramento, and a son, Jared, who lives here in Sparks. We have two grandsons, Jonathan and Nathaniel. We came to Sparks for my employment some 9 years ago. Though we met and married in Sacramento, California, we came to Sparks from Casper, WY in an effort to relocate closer to family. We enjoy getting outdoors when we can, though we have noticed that the rocks are getting harder, and the trails are getting much steeper.

Janice and I have been members here for about 8 years. We were drawn to FBCS initially for 3 reasons. One is that we could see Pastor Morley preached the Word of God. We were drawn because there was a traditional choir we could participate in. And we were drawn because of the friendly spirit of fellowship displayed here. Janice serves on the Counting Committee and takes on various other duties as required. My initial service at FBCS was as an Adult Sunday School teacher and then about five years ago I was asked to join the deacon body.  I was ordained as a Deacon in January, 2015. This was a great honor for me, but it is also, and is mostly an opportunity for service. In October of 2019 the Deacons at FBCS elected me as the Chairman of the Deacons. I was somewhat surprised, very  much humbled, and felt terribly inadequate. With the help of Pastor Morley, and our past Chairman, Paul Chapman and a gracious deacon body, as well as the help of the Lord, I continue i this position. I tis my great pleasure and privilege to serve at FBCS.

I know that the current Pandemic situation can be stressful and frustrating for all of us. Please know that you are not in this alone, we all feel the strain. I urge you to contact your Sunday School teacher, or a fellow class member, or your Family Deacon for a word of encouragement and a prayer when you get feeling overwhelmed. If you do not have a church family to care about you, I would encourage you to come visit us at FBCS and join this body of believers. And Remember, no matter what happens in this current situation, or in the political divisiveness we find ourselves in at the present we can rest assured that GOD is in control. May He grant us the grace and peace to do His will as we are able to see it and accomplish it.  May God bless you and your family.
